Among the eighteen important saints in the South Indian Cultural Heritage, Saint Agaththiyar holds a very important position for his treasure-like contributions in the fields of Ayurveda, Siddha, Astrology and other important aspects of human life. It is said that he was sent to the South by Lord Shiva in order to balance the earth because of the stampede of living beings and celestials at Mount Kailash when Lord Shiva got married to Goddess Parvathi. As directed by Lord Shiva, Saint Agaththiyar came to the South and stayed at Papanasam, near Thirukutralam mount and learnt classical language Tamil from Lord Subramanya, the second son of Lord Shiva.
Since then, after indulging in very deep research, he started to reveal some truths about the birth and death of human beings. Karma is the root cause for recurring births and deaths but the same karma is the tool for stopping rebirth. However, for this, an individual should know about the role of past birth’s karma in the current life and the ways to come out from the aftermath of it. Selecting some noble souls who would take birth after many years on earth, Saint Agaththiyarinscribed their life histories on palm leaves and kept them along with all other noble works that he had composed for the wellbeing of the world and its inhabitants.
Though all others works pertaining to various disciplines were taken away by different kings and lost through the years, the Nadi Palm Leaves were saved because not everyone had the knowledge to read, understand and extract the correct information from the Nadi Palm Leaves and convey the valuable messages to the concerned individuals.
My grandfather had been rendering astrological services to the descendants of the kings and various royal families. He studied the imperishable values implied in those Nadi Astrological Palm Leaves, which he had collected carefully, and after getting permission from the descendants of the kings, he maintained everything in his repository.As all those leaves belong to the future generations, he taught my mentor and father Dr. Arulsiva Arumugam how to use those leaves for the wellbeing of the people in future. Having learned the art of Nadi Reading, my father established this Agaththiyar Kudil (an abode for Saint Agasthiya) at Vaithiswarankoil and started to use the Nadi Leaves at appropriate time when the destined people visited him for astrological consultations.
Later on, my father trained and mentored me properly about the right methods to read and explain Nadi; after which he handed over the Agaththiyar Kudil to me ‘Arul Ganesan’ along with the Palm Leaf Bundles to serve the destined people of the world in the best way possible. I taught the same art of Nadi Reading to my son 'Arul Prasanth' and currently, we together have been serving the people from our Agaththiyar Kudil, Vaithiswarankoil.
